The main construction of the guillotine has always been the same since it’s invention in 1792 until the abbolision of the deathpenalty in 1981. But changes and improvements were made.
The major improvements were made in 1871, when Berger an executiones assistent changed the design of the guillotine to it’s final construction.
The model to your left is as close as we can get to the original revolutionary guillotine from 1792.
The model to your right is the improved model from 1870, which was used until 1977.
